The Federal style Weir House was built by Dr. John H Weir in 1836. He and his son had their medical practice in this house. It is the 2nd oldest brick house in Edwardsville. In 1963 the Weir family sold the house to the Madison Country Historical Society.

The front door leads to a wide hallway the extends to the rear of the house. There were eight rooms in the house when built, two on each side of the main hallway on each floor. There is a fireplace in each room in the house. The main floor front room on the right in this photo is where the doctor conducted his practice, it has a separate entrance for patients on the side of the building.

The building was placed on the NRHP in 1983.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
