Jacob & Dorothea Blickle operated a tavern, restaurant and boarding house in this building. The building was designed and built by by architect Charles Pauly at a cost of about $3,500.00. Later owners converted the second floor to apartments. A previous building on this site, also owned by the Blickle's, was destroyed in the "great fire" of 1889 which damaged many buildings and threatened much of the Edwardsville downtown.

In 1915 you could visit a shop in 303 side of this building and order a custom made feather mattress, or sell them your old one.

One of the longest running businesses here appears to have been a Donut Shop owned by Vernon Schulte that served up donuts, ice cream and even hamburgers over the years from the late 1940s into at least the late 1970s. A sign on the front of the building called it the Schulte Building until 2015.

In 2016 a new owner renovated the building for art studio and apartment on the second and retail on the ground floor. The new owner renamed it the "J" building, with name Jennie over the door to the second floor.

In 2022 a Photo Studio moved into part of the building.

Other occupants over the years included a Dry Goods store, an Electrical Contractor, a Plumbing and Heating business, and probably others.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
