Henry's has been at this location since 1950. Before that Bill Henry sold
kosher hot dogs part time from a mobile hot dog stand a block away at
Ogden Avenue and Austin Blvd. In 1950 he built a small diner here and
turned it into a full time job. That little shop had six stools and a
couple of walk-up windows. Eventually he enlarged the diner to make competing
with a new McDonalds down the street easier. That included adding the
iconic hot dog with fries "meal in itself" sign out front.
Yes, those are French Fries adorning the giant hot dog in the sky. That's
what makes it a "Meal in Itself!". This is the original neon
sign.

You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane
road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned
lanes are still there.
