East < GO > West

The 1827 Sugar Creek Covered Bridge has a clear span of 60 feet. It was extensively rehabbed in 1965. The bridge is located between I-55 and IL-4 on Covered Bridge Rd. Not the easiest spot to find though. We've included the bridge on the 1926 alignment section.

From IL-4 take Osterman Rd (south of Chatham) east to Union School Rd then north on the Covered Bridge Rd then east to the bridge on the north side of the road.

Not part of 66, but fun stop.

x Here's a shot of the interior of the bridge. This is the oldest of two remaining covered bridges in Sangamon County. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in January of 1978.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
