When the Illinois Hotel was built in 1902 it was immediately the finest hotel in downtown Bloomington. A couple of owners and 75 year later it was purchased in 1977 by three local men who renovated the historic landmark into commercial and presidential space called the Illinois House. That's still its status in 2023.

The Illinois Hotel was on the site of the Windsor Hotel that burned down in 1900. The Illinois was originally a 4 story hotel with a full service restaurant, a barber shop, a tailor shop, a grand ballroom and 180 guest rooms. The 5 floor was added in 1925.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
