This 1894 Franz Reisch building has been home to Chubby's Bar & Grill for years. In the late 1800s the Reisch Brewing Company was headquarters in Springfield and was the largest brewery in Illinois outside of Chicago. This building was built as an outlet for the companies products. In this photo the building has obviously seen a couple of the second floor windows boarded up. It would be nice to seen them restored.

x The mural on the side of the building was created as part of the Walldogs Letter Rip campaign in Atlanta in 2003 when they also painted several other murals in Atlanta. Artist Dave "Herbie" Estes used a 1919 postcard as a guide for this mural. Estes is part of the Letterheads, a group of professional sign painters who are interested in preserving the art of painting outdoor signs and murals.

x There is an original ghost sign on the other side of the building.

Reisch proclaimed their beer "Will Give You Health & Strength". That's probably not a claim found on any modern beer cans. While the Reisch Brewing Company went out of business in the mid 1960s family members have continued their tradition of working in the brewing industry.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
