Potapov's Service Station & Auto Court

Route 66, Oro Grande, CA
Phone: x

East < GO > West

This Joshua Tree marks the location of the demolished Bill Potapov's Service Station and Auto Court. The rock station and auto court buildings were reportedly built by Guy Wadsworth, in the early 1930s and were demolished in 2007. The Joshua Tree, a sign post footing nearby and a pile of rubble a little further off the road.

Bill Potapov bought the property known as B. A. Feeny Ranch in 1943. He was known to sell Douglas gas which was popular in the 1950s. He also had a stone water tower. The station was apparently also known as Bill's Service. The station apparently operated until the 1970s.

xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
