The Sage Brush Service Station (Texaco) was built in 1931 by Guy Wadsworth for George & Bessie Sibert. In 1933 Bessie became known as Sagebrush Annie, named after the character Tugboat Annie in the movie by the same name.

In 1934 a bar/cafe and dance floor were added and in 1935 the name was changed to Sage Brush Inn. With the new addition the place became more like a roadhouse, especially since it is beyond the city limits.

The old fashioned "visible" gas pumps were used until 1947 when those new fangled electric powered pumps were installed. Bessie died in 1970 at the age of 88. It is now a private residence.

This false front mockup of a dance hall is fairly new having appeared on the scene sometime between 2009 and 2012. Notice the cut-outs of the "ladies" and "gentlemen" in the upper windows. In 2012 there was a sign above the center windows that said Sagebrush Annie's Saloon. The "second floor" was missing when we went by in 2015, but by 2017 it had found its way back. The false front is attached to a barely visible Quonset hut behind it.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
