The 1911 Claremont High School gave up the quest to educate young people
in 1963. The building didn't meet earthquake safety standards and in 1971
the school district sold the property. After that the building became
a commercial center featuring the now long gone Griswolds Smorgasbord
and bakery. The Candlelight Pavilion Dinner Theater is located in the
former gymnasium. The building is located at the intersection of Foothill
Blvd. & Indian Hill Blvd. the school opened with 120 students.
The building still features the decorative tile work around the entrance.
The building had been rebuilt once in 1930.
