1940s Four Lane Section

East < GO > West

Beginning about 0.3 miles south of the Brush Creek Bridge you will see the abandoned 1940s lanes. The active lanes switch back and forth between the old northbound and southbound lanes so you get to spend some time driving on both. Generally speaking one set of lanes or the other was laid on top of the pervious two lane roadway.

There is a several mile stretch like this starting here and running south to Devore at the base of the Cajon Pass.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
