Cactus Motel
916 E. Main St., Barstow, CA
Phone:
The Cactus Motel was originally built and owned by MD "Ike"
Eichler, a building contractor. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Luchsinger purchased
the motel early 1963. Unlike many of these vintage motels, this one was
still operating with its original name in 2019.
The late 1940s motel featured Panel-Ray heat and Beauty Rest mattresses.
The motel office on the right in this photo was a later addition to
the property, as was the swimming pool directly behind it.
The
very cool early 1950s neon sign was still standing tall in 2019. Take
away the "Free Internet" and "Budget Rates" and
it's the 1950s again! This sign replaced the original much less interesting
sign. The yellow sign can was a later addition.

A nicely furnished 13 unit motel. Some fully equipped kitchenettes.
TV, Individually controlled heat, and air-conditioning. Restaurant and
shopping nearby.
Note: It's interesting that the mid-60s postcard doesn't mention
a swimming pool. I would have thought the pool would have been added
by then.
