This wass the first motel Ray and Mildred Barker operated in Truxton. The sign said Barker Apartments when this photo was taken in 2013. Built in 1953 it was one of three motels on Route 66 in Truxton. Thr Barker's later purchased the Frontier Motel and Restaurant across the road.

x You can still read the very worn and faded Motel in the middle section under the name Barker and the (No)Vacancy sign. The old wording just above the (No)Vacancy is harder to figure out.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
