1965 Gas Station

Hwy. 191 Frontage Rd - I-40 Exit 339, Sanders, AZ

East < GO > West

A short distance west of I-40 exit 339 at Hwy. 191 for Sanders you can spot this abandoned mid 60's gas station on the north frontage road. It appears to have been last operated as a Stop n' Go station. Notice the above ground storage tanks.

This is the Hwy. 191 Frontage Road between exit 339 and exit 333 on the north side of I-40, which is also part of the original Route 66.

GPS: 35.214370, -109.337517

x The paint is peeling off and fading on the tanks making for an accidental but somewhat colorful appearance.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
