The former 11 unit Bell's Motel was built in 1945 and later became the Bell Motel, then the Bell-Aire Motel and even later the Desert Lodge Motel, but it was called the Desert Lodge Apartments when we went by in in 2009. The canopy over the sidewalk in front of the rooms was added at some point in time after the motel opened.

x The sign out front moved around a fair bit during the motels history.

x This was the motel office and perhaps the managers residence.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
