East < GO > West

The former Woods Inn became the Pope Inn and then the Holbrook Inn. It is located just two blocks west of Hopi Drive and Navajo Blvd. There have been a couple of small additions to the original building.

xThis is a great and fairly original Googie Style sign that has thankfully survived down through the years. It speaks to the enthusiasm of the times when this motel was built. Originally the round disks were painted bright colors and the sign-can in the arrow ended about where the "B" in Best is in this photo.

Note: This was the early 1960s, and again, no mention of room phones. Before direct dial and free local calls became common motels sometimes at least mentioned room phones and maybe "24 hour phone service" or some similar terms.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
