Holbrook was the headquarters for the Whiting Brothers chain of gas stations and motels, they operated about 15 motels in the southwest. This is one of three motels they operated in Holbrook at various times. ----------

You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane
road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned
lanes are still there.
A postcard from the 60's promoted the motel as having 40 units, air
conditioning, a swimming pool, color T.V.. family rooms, room phones,
tub shower combinations. The pool has since been filled in as is becoming
more and more common with these vintage motels. 
This
postcard appears to be from at least the late 1960s and shows the Whiting
Motor Hotel from about the same angel as the photo above. Pretty hard
to miss the place with the HUGE sign which brags of offering color TV.
