This motel is now a Days Inn, formerly it was a Best Western. It is located on I-40, exit 333 and US Hwy. 191. It was built by Alice & Frank Young after I-40 bypassed Chambers. The canopy over the office driveway has been significantly modified.

The early postcard mentioned below promotes the motel as being a Gateway to the Painted Desert, Petrified Forest and Canyon De Chelly.

xThe fenced area in the parking lot surrounded the swimming pool.

Best Western Motel and Chieftain Restaurant

Note: The front of the postcard shows a sign saying Best Western Motel and Chieftain Restaurant. The back of the card refers to the Chieftain Motel, kind of a strange mix of name references. Another old postcard included a reference to the availability of Horse Stabling. OK this is the west, so the horse thing was probably not that odd, but it was in the late 60s to 70s and TV was only "available"... In a Best Western? That does seem odd.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
