Alanreed Pioneer Jail, Post Office & Motel

Route 66 at W. 6th Ave., Alanreed, TX

East < GO > West

Standing next to the Alanreed Post Office at the Alanreed Travel Center , which is also a gas stationa and convenience store, is an old pioneer jail with a large "BEER" sign on it. Makes me wonder if the jail's motto was "Get Your Beer and Bunk Here!"

x It's easy to miss the old jail because of the big beer sign stuck to the side, so this photo might help folks locate it easier. There is a small motel here too.

This motel is part of the Alanreed Travel Complex which includes a RV park, motel, post office, gas station and convenience store. A neat place find postcards of local interests. After I-40 bypassed McLean, Texas this motel was opened by E. J. and Grace Windom who previuosly owned and operated the West Wind Motel in McLean

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
