The Heartland of America Museum opened on June 12, 2007. It is a great museum to visit and has 32 major historical exhibits and over 38 aisle cabinet exhibits. Outside there is an old Valentine Diner, a one room school house, a pioneer jail and a blacksmith shop.

x The first Valentine Diner in Weatherford opened on Route 66 in 1941. This "Aristocat" model is the third diner to occupy that same location on Route 66 at 305 West Main. This one opened in the early 1960s after having been moved there from El Reno, OK. According to the museum info Elvis Presley stopped at this diner three times and on April 22, 1960 signed the guest book with his signature and commented, "Cool, Daddy." The diner was donated to the museum by the county in 2002 and then restored.

The Heartland of America Museum is located at 1600 W. Frontage Road, south side of I-40 between exits 82 and 84.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
