The Last Stop Bar was formerly the Hitching Post Bar and is located on
the last curve leaving Texola. At one time this was the last place to
get a beer until you got to Amarillo, hence the bar's name.
The
weathered sign on the front of the building says:
"THERE'S NO OTHER PLACE
LIKE THIS PLACE
ANYWHERE NEAR THIS PLACE
SO THIS MUST BE THE PLACE"

You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane
road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned
lanes are still there.
