Jobe's Drive-In
, 1220 Sunset Dr, El Reno, OK
Phone:
J. R. Jobe opened Jobe's Drive-in in 1958 featuring Charburgers with their
own Hickory Smoke Sauce. That's not enough to build business on of course
so they also served fried chicken, fried shrimp, broiled steaks, and a
complete fountain service with malts and sundaes. It's easy to imagine
car hops hurrying to a customers car to take their order and whisk it
back to them as soon as possible. The canopy provided shelter from the
weather for diners in their cars.
Robert Sanders bought the Drive-in about 1969 and ran until 2015 when
health reason led to it's sale and permanent closing. Cliff Johnson
bought the property and converted it to the Old Cowboys Antiques shop.
He did keep the old Jobe's sign.
"CharBurger"
used to appear where "Drive-in" appears on the sign today.
Some of the old neon tubing is still in place and casting a shadow in
this 2017 photo. The text on the arrow says "Since 1958".
