In June of 1924 the Edmond Service Station opened here on the northeast
corner of 3rd street and Broadway. That old building is long gone, but
the site was home to gas stations into the 1970s at least. The slanted
windows on this building indicate that it was a Phillips 66 station, probably
built in the mid 50s or very early 60s. It was their "New Look"
style of station design. The mansard roof was added later.

You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane
road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned
lanes are still there.
