This set of historic markers is located in the median on Old Hwy. 66 on the east end of Canute. A good bit of Canute history is described on these markers. From left to right:

Great Western Cattle Trail -1874 - 1896
1899 St. Francis Church & Holy Family Church
David Lee Waters - 24th governor of Oklahoma, a native of Canute
Canute History
Canute Centennial 1902 - 2002

The marker on the left in the top photo is for the Great Western Cattle Trail of 1874 - 1896. Be sure to walk around the other side of the marker, they're inscribed on both sides.

The reverse side of the Great Western Cattle Trail marker has a map of the trail as it passes through Oklahoma. The Holy family Cemetery is on the other side of the road from these markers.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
