Route 66 Park9901 NW 23rd St., OKC (Bethany), OKPhone:
The Cyrus Avery Pavilion, across the road from Lake Overholser, houses a observation deck and restrooms. This is a pretty large park, but there is parking right in front of the pavilion. The plaza in front of the Avery Pavilion contains a map of Route 66 from the shores of Lake Michigan to Santa Monica. Images of iconic locations along the way are embedded in the plaza. Andy Payne who was from Foyil Oklahoma ran in and won the Bunion Derby from Los Angeles to New York and is memorialized in the park with this statue. The actual name of the race was the "International Trans-Continental Foot Race" from Los Angeles to New York. The park entrance is about a block west of Lake Overholser Drive on 23rd, this sign marks the entrance to the park.
