Wilkerson's Auto Courts

Route 66, Newkirk, NM
Phone: x

East < GO > West

The little Wilkerson's Auto Court had 4 units with open garages. I haven't found a date for when the courts were built. With only 4 units it seems to have been a side venture to go along with the Wilkerson's gas station and the Magistrate's (Justice of the Peace) office. Some references mention this as a motel, I think the term auto courts is more likely because of the style and obvious age.

The auto court stands just east of the little Magistrates office, but it's easy to miss.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
