The Santa Maria de Acoma Church was built and dedicated in 1933 in the classic Mission style, the Spanish Colonial building. The original church has two square towers and a flat roof.. A parish hall was constructed in 1969.

GPS: 35.065333, -107.677277

According to a 1932 newspaper article descibing the plans for the original building it was to be 28 feet wide, 80 feet long and 20 feet high with the two towers rising to 30 feet. The 10x14 inch roof vigas (beams) are 30 foot long and project through the adobed stuccoed stone and adobe brick walls. The floor of the new church was to remain dirt. The church is styled like the Mission church at Acoma about 15 miles away, but somewhat smaller.

xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
