Sunset Motel

427 Highway AT, Villa Ridge, MO

East < GO > West

The 12-unit Sunset Motel was built in 1945 and each unit had two doors, one opening to the lawn and the other to the parking lot behind the building. The sign is one of the must stop photo ops for many Route 66 travelers.

In 2009 the building was reroofed and the wonderful neon sign relit with the help of a grant from the Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program and funds invested by the building owner.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
