The Wild Animal Adventure Park has taken over two old Route 66 motels, The El Rancho Motel on the east end and the Acacia Shady Rest Court on the east end. The business is located on the North Service Rd just west of Lawrence Ln.

GPS: 38.286090,-91.104064

The eight unit motel El Ranch, shown above, was built in 1950 like many small-scale, individually owned and operated motels. The El Rancho is all but unrecognizable now, but you can still spot the cupola on the roof.

xThe Acacia Shady Rest Court consisted of a gas station, cafe and few cabins according to Jack Rittenhouse's 1946. "A Guide Book to Highway 66" The cabins were built in 1938 & 1941. In 1951 there also was a restaurant and a trailer park. The main two buildings are now used as a care center with the cabins further back in the woods.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
