East < GO > West

This is a half-scale partial reconstruction of Stonehenge in Salisbury Plain, 75 miles Southwest of London. This replica was built using the university's high pressure water jet carving system. It took a month to carve using this high tech system and was dedicated on June 20, 1984 which was the summer solstice. In that same year the University of Missouri-Rolla received an award from the National Society of Professional Engineers for this project.

If you continue past Vichy Rd on 66 you can see the Stonehenge on the east side, but there's no place to park.

DIRECTIONS: To get to the parking area follow these directions:
Turn south on Vichy Rd. the take the first right onto St. Patricks Ln. Go straight to the end and left into the Stonehenge parking lot by the observatory.

GPS: 37.956676, -91.775789

xAdjacent to the Stonehenge replica is the 1973 Missouri University of Science and Technology observatory (next to the parking lot). The observatory houses a 16-inch diameter telescope. The observatory is open to the public on limited hours throughout the semester.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
