East < GO > West

This 1950s building started life as a Standard Oil Service Station. At some point in time it became a Skelly station which apparently lasted into at least the late 1970s. In the mid-1990s a new owner bought it and some adjacent land for golf course and the building was converted to serve as the office. The golf course apparently didn't last very long.

Coming from the east the station is just a short distance west of the old Underpass Cafe. The station is located on Hwys. A & W, on the north frontage road just west of I-44, exit 118.

The roof over the office is missing on the former gas station. The two doors on the side of the station would have led to the restrooms. There is only a single service bay.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
