Monroes 66 Diner
409 E. Osage St., Pacific, MO

Jerry and Betty Miller bought and erected their stone fronted World War
II surplus Quonset hut around 1950 and used it for their laundromat and
dry cleaning business. In 1962 Norbert Funke opened a photo studio in
the building. After that the building became a restaurant operated under
various names including DJ's Cafe, Monroe's Diner, Down South Cafe and
most recently (2017) as Graze. Graze operates as a food truck and catering
business.
It's kind of uncommon to find the Quonset hut style building used in
a modern food service application. It's a small structure with only
960 square feet of floor space.
The modern Monroe's Diner sign was still standing out front in 2016
making it easy to spot the cafe. As of 2018 I believe it has been replaced
by a sign for the current occupant of the building.
