In the late 1920's Bill and Emma Martin built this two story building that served both as a home upstairs and store downstairs. There were gas pumps out front and a few cabins out back. They also operated the little stone springhouse next door. The store was converted to a home when I-44 opened.

x The small stone springhouse was rebuilt in the 1950s after a car crashed into it. It's a pretty modest building, but it reportedly housed a pretty large spring producing as much as 840,000 gallons of water a day, most of which found it's way into the Little Beaver Creek a short distance away.

There are a pair of outhoses left standin back near the woods on the east side of the property.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
