This Will Rogers Highway Marker is located in Schifferdecker Park. Turn north off Route 66 (7th St.) onto Schifferdecker Ave. and then take the first left into the park, then take the next left and the marker is at the end of the road.

The marker highlights Schifferdecker Park, formerly the Electric Park from 1909-1912. In November 1913, Charles Schifferdecker deeded 40 acres here to the city of Joplin with the stipulation that it remain a free public park in perpetuity. Since then the park has expanded to 160 acres. It is home to the Schifferdecker Golf Course and the Joplin Museum Complex. The museum complex includes the Tri-State Mineral Museum and the Joplin Historical Society.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
