The town square/central park in Virden is home to the 1898 Battle of Virden monument (above) as well as war monuments and a gazebo. This granite and cast bronze bas-relief memorial was dedicated in October 2006. The sculpture itself measures is a six by twelve feet.

x The ornate historic town square bandstand reminds us of the Saturday night band concerts.

x The Soldiers and Sailors World War 1 Monument stands proudly in the town square.

x This is a monument to veterans of WWII and later conflicts.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
