You couldn't tell by looking at this site now, but according to the local newspaper there was a gas station on this corner lot. In 1938 the paper reported that "Arnold Straub has leased the service station at 900 N. Linden from the Mobil Gas and Oil company of Peoria, IL".

In 1939 it was the Arthur Holland Service Station. The newspaper also shows an ad for a Fred Harvey Gas and Oil Station at Linden and Pine in 1926. In 1941 the paper carried and ad for an oil station and partly modern 6 room house for sale on large corner lot at this intersection with good terms for quick sale for $2,500.00.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
