During the laying of the original cement for the road in the 1920's a bunch of mischievous wild turkeys apparently decided that fresh cement was just too tempting to leave undisturbed, making this little spot on the Mother Road a sort of turkey walk of fame with their footprints permanently embedded in it.

xThere is a sign along the road to help you locate the Turkey Tracks. The sign has been stolen and replaced at least once.

xThese world famous "Turkey Tracks" are outlined in white and can be found by going not quite 2 miles west of Nilwood and watching for the Route 66 direction sign where you turn south onto Donaldson Rd. Coming from the west the tracks are about 0.3 miles north of Allen Rd.

Thankfully the road builders and all later maintenance workers saw the uniqueness of this and left the tracks in place to be enjoyed by future travelers. There is NO really safe place to park or even pull off the road here, so be careful!

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
