The 2006 Lincoln Penny mural is located at Pulaski & Sangamon Streets
on the New Beginnings Thrift Shop. Do you suppose it was painted in 2006
and being a thrift shops, you can save pennies?
Aside from the fact that we may have missed a mural or two, many towns
along the Mother Road add new murals from time to time, so keep an eye
out for those not shown here.
The Steffans-Capones mural is an advertisement for Eckerts Sheffans
Apartment and Capones, a food and drink establishment. Their addresses
is shown as 131 Sangamon. Apartments upstairs and food/drinks below.
This is not a part of the Walldog Project.
This mural is most of a block long and is located on Sangamon St. between
Pulaski & Broadway Streets. That's the dome of the county courthouse
peaking over the top. The mural is a collection of store fronts. Maybe
what was there years ago?
The Lincoln Montage Mural is located on the back of the historic Lincoln
Theatre located on Kickapoo Street. The mural depicts several of Lincoln's
characteristics. Artists are Mike Meyer and David Parr, part of the
2003 Walldog Project
The Cities Service Motor Oil Mural is located on the side of the McEntire
Building at 403 Broadway (between Sangamon & Logan Sts). It is a
reproduction of the sign that was on a long gone nearby gas station.
The Artist is Steward Mclaren, one of the Walldogs who were in Lincoln
during 2004 and painted 11 murals
This mural of Hotel Lincoln is on the wall next to the Cities Service
mural. It is not one of the 11 murals done by the Walldogs in 2004.
The GM&O mural is located at the intersection of Sangamon and Pekin
Streets. The Gulf Mobil and Ohio Railways is now a part of Amtrak. These
tracks are a part of Lincoln's history as they carried the body of Abraham
Lincoln from Washington to Springfield, IL. Artists are Andy and Lori
Goretski, part of the 2004 Walldog Project.
The Sam Rovick's Shoes mural is on the wall of Mary's Cafe at 413 Pulaski
St. It is across the alley from the Falstaff mural. Rovicks was Lincoln's
first cobbler shop. Artist is Mike Clark, part of the 2004 Walldog Project.
The Falstaff Bottle Beer is on the Alley-Bi Saloon's wall in the alley.
The Saloon is located at 415 Pulaski (between Chicago & Kickapoo
Streets). Falstaff was founded in the 1840s in St. Louis. The artist
was Francisco Vargas and was part of the 2004 Walldog project.
