A section of old Route 66 in Lexington is open to pedestrians, and once
a year or so to cars. It is lined with signs for a variety of businesses.

small gazebo with a picnic table stands near the north end of Memory
Lane, easily reached even when the gate on Memory Lane is shut, so grab
your picnic basket and rest a bit.
There
are a couple of benches along the way for those who are walking Memory
Lane and want to sit and rest a bit.
The Memory Lane Route 66 billboard welcomes you to Lexington with images
of an early Corvette and Mustang.
The Double Nickel Drive-In billboard advertises Fresh Frozen Custard.
The Drive-In was located in Bloomington, IL.
The Lexington Motel sign says they were established in 1950 and have
no vacancy!
The Willie Anderson Trucking sign notes that they were established
in 1947 and features a variety of vintage trucks.
A chocolate dipped ice cream cone tempted travelers to stop at the
Oasis Drive-In from 1960 to 1976.
This
one mile section of the 1926-1940 Route 66 was restored back with vintage
billboards. Parade Rd. is on the north end of town, just off of Wall
St.
There are two alignments in Lexington, The 1926-1940s alignment entered
Lexington at Memory lane (Parade Rd) from Historic Route 66 and curves
unto Wall St. and then curves unto Grove St. Grove St. merges with Historic
Route 66 on the south end of town. The 1940s-1977 alignment (4-lane)
bypassed Lexington starting at the intersection with Memory Lane..
