The Civil War Monument is at the Girard City Cemetery on Cty. Rd 12. Take Center Street west from IL-4/old 66 (S. 3rd St.).

x This GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) Soldiers monument honors Union soldiers from the Civil War. The monument was dedicated in 1896 and is lighted at night.

x  The inscription on the base of the monument reads:

"With cheers for the living and tears for the dead,
We erect this monument to the memory of the heroes
Who fought the battles that decided forever
That this Union of states is a nation of free men."
