This popular and iconic Route 66 restaurant was founded in a building across the street in 1923 by Lou Mitchell's father and has been run by family members ever since.

The current location was built in 1949. A large and original 1949 neon sign hangs on the gray glazed tile clad front of the building. The line under the name on the sign reads "Serving the World’s Best Coffee".

x A second sign protrudes out over the sidewalk proclaiming "We do Our Own Quality Baking".

x Sunlight reflected from the building across the street shines on the front of the building. The sign on the roof annouces that the restaurant was "Selected No 1 Breakfast & Lunch Restaurant in America"

It is open daily for breakfast and lunch and located at Jackson Blvd & Jefferson St. Providing Milk Duds candies to women and children as they enter the restaurant has been a tradition here since 1958.

The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
