This 1854 three story building on the east side of the Carlinville Town
Square became the site of Pete Adam's original Ariston Cafe. Be sure to
check out the Wayside Marker in the square to see a photo from when the
cafe was located here.
There
are two identical signs on the building commemorating it as the original
site of the Ariston Cafe. This one is on the corner as seen in the first
photo in this page.

road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned
lanes are still there.
