The former Cliff House was is located just a bit west of the Bagdad Cafe. The Cliff House has been here since at least the early 1920s and consisted of a gas station, cafe, cabins. Inside was the post office and a general store. The Greyhound and Continental Trailways bus companies also made stops here. In the mid 1950s it had the only telephone for the region making it a very popular place. In the mid-1980s the Newberry Market occupied the main building.

In the late 1930s a swimming pool was constructed behing the main building and up a small slope. The ruins of empty pool is still there.

These appear to be two of the original cabins, originally separate buildings, later connected. There were at least four cabins in this row going by the concrete entry stoops still in place.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
