The former Flamingo Hotel dates back to the mid 1950's. The 1959 AAA Tourbook lists it as the Flamingo Santa Anita Hotel. I'm not sure when it became the Santa Anita Inn. By whatever name, this was a very nice place in the prime time years of Route 66. The property has been redeveloped and most of the old buildings were demolished, but they have apparently saved the small section shown here.

xThe Santa Anita Inn name on the gable of the remaining section of the old building was outlined in neon.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
