East < GO > West

These two stautes mysteriously appeared in 2013. These are Chinese guardian lions, also called "foo dogs". Apparently there is one male and one female. The male, shown above, has one foot on a ball or sphere of some sort. Their traditional job is to protect a property. Exactly what they are protecting out here in the desert is a mystery.

They are located 1.4 miles west of Kelbaker Rd and about 4 miles east of Roy's. They are about 1/4 mile apart. So I'm showing the approximate GPS coordinates for each.

East Lion GPS: 34.559194, -115.667944

x The female shelters a cub. When we were there in 2017 there was what, from a distance, looked like it might be a fold American flag, why that would be is beyond me.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
