There is a small pull out on the north side of Exit 311 that features
the Petrified National Park sign. Nice place to stop for a photo op.
Just
up the road a very short distance you come to the Visitor Center. There
is also a large restaurant and gift shop in the adjacent building. That
restaurant became a Fred Harvey restaurant in 1963 when the Painted
Desert Inn closed for several years.
The National Park Service has a cool video
about the Park.

About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
Did
You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane
road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned
lanes are still there.
