Little Pryor Creek Bridge

E. 1st St., Chelsea, OK

East < GO > West

The Little Pryor Creek bridge marks an interesting spot in Chelsea. The original 1926 alignment of Route 66 turned south on Cherry Street just past the west end of the bridge. Cherry Street meets E. 1st at the first left turn seen in this photo. This bridge was built in 1941 to replace a 1929 bridge.

If you want to drive the original route (going west), turn south on Cherry St. (the first left just past the bridge), then right on 6th St. to Walnut. If you go straight on E. 1st here you will be on the 1929 alignment. The road between Cherry and the current Hwy. 66 / Walnut only lasted from 1929 to 1932.

x About Us We started traveling Historic U.S. Route 66 as a destination in 2009. It's like a 2,400 mile long drive back in time from Chicago to Santa Monica! more
xDid You Know: Many parts of the old 4 lane Route 66 were reverted to a 2 lane road after 66 was realigned to the interstate. In many places the abandoned lanes are still there.
