Lester Dill opened Meramec Caverns in 1933 and it soon became a tourist trap, offering tours of his cave. He also had a restaurant and souvenier shop inside the cave and a motel outside.

To advertise, he offered to paint barns for farmers, free, if he could advertise Meramec Caverns.

There are a whole boatload of options for on river recrecreation including Kayak and canoe rentals, floating and a riverboat ride.
